Clam Bake

Here is a little throwback for you! My first year in Japan, I came home for summer vacation. This was July of 1997. My friend had a boat ( many people do here. It is not just for people with money) and we sailed out to a little island where we had a clam bake. A clam bake is a traditional New England beach celebration. We dig a large hole in the sand and fill it with seaweed and hot coals. Then we add corn, lobster, clams, potatoes, quahogs....and you let it bake in the sand for several hours. After you eat everything, you use the hole as a fire pit and stay warm as you watch the sunset.
